William C. Stevens Jr., Ph.D., MBA (abd)

Dr. Stevens was appointed as VP of business development for Granlen in January 2009. Prior to joining Granlen, Dr. Stevens had been completing his MBA and served as a team leader and medicinal chemist at Exelixis (formerly X-Ceptor Therapeutics) where he integrated automation into the discovery program, streamlined research, and led several advancements. He led chemistry efforts which identified an advanced MR antagonist which is currently partnered with Sankyo for the treatment of hypertension. He also identified the first selective LXR-beta agonists which are now in clinical trials with Bristol-Myers Squibb as a first-in-class anti-atherosclerosis treatment. Before joining X-Ceptor Therapeutics Dr. Stevens was a senior scientist in the Pfizer-ArQule combinatorial chemistry collaboration where he was instrumental in adapting several Pfizer projects to ArQule automation. Dr. Stevens is also cofounder and managing partner of Salindong-Stevens Agri-products and Supplies Trading Company, a Philippine based company dedicated to improving lives through sustainable agriculture.
Dr. Stevens received a BS from Virginia Commonwealth University, a MA from Lehigh University in physical organic chemistry, and a Ph.D. in bioorganic chemistry from the University of Virginia. He was a NIH postdoctoral trainee with the Minneapolis Medical Research Foundation at the University of Minnesota where he discovered the most potent non-peptide antagonist of the kappa-opioid receptor. He has almost completed a MBA from Point Loma Nazarene University focused on international business.
