Haoyun (Harry) An: Ph.D.

Prior to founding Granlen, Dr. An served as director of chemistry and pharmaceuticals for ACEA Biosciences where he discovered and led fluorapacin, a novel microtubule inhibitor, through IND approval and into clinical trials for the treatment of cancers. Fluorapacin has been in clinical development since early 2008. Prior to joining ACEA , Dr. An was a head of drug discovery chemistry at Valeant Pharmaceuticals (formerly ICN) where he implemented and managed an array of new projects and techniques. As head of chemistry, he led a variety of discovery programs including HCV, HIV, HBV, antitumor, and various other projects which resulted in preclinical and clinical drugs. Before joining ICN, Dr. An served as an associate director at ISIS Pharmaceuticals where he implemented a variety of combinatorial chemistry techniques into the drug discovery process. He also worked on the antiviral drug discovery and novel antisense therapeutics and rapidly identified a number of drug candidates. Dr. An also founded the largest non-profit educational organization in California, SDHXCS.
Dr. An holds a doctoral degree in synthetic organic chemistry from Brigham Young University and a master of science in physical organic chemistry from Zhengzhou University, PRC. He did postdoctoral research with Sidney Hecht at the University of Virginia where he completed a total synthesis of bleomycins.
